Teeth Whitening
Tooth Whitening is the use of bleaching agents to lighten the color of teeth that have not responded sufficiently to professional cleaning. Tooth discoloration occurs for a variety of reasons:
- Surface stains due to lifestyle (smoking, coffee, tea & red wine)
- Age
- Poor oral hygiene
- Certain medications
It is important to note however that not everyone is suitable for tooth whitening. Factors contributing to this are:
- Tooth sensitivity
- Defective or absent tooth enamel
- Gum disease
- Presence of dentures
- Dental implants
- Crowns/Veneers or fillings
- Pregnancy or Breast feeding
At Maroondah Dental Care we offer our patients three types of tooth whitening:
✔ Take Home Kit
Our most popular option as you are in control of achieving the desirable shade.
In this option; we take measurements of your teeth and custom trays are fabricated. You are given these along with syringes of the bleaching agent.
Usually takes 2 weeks to complete; however the amount of time used to bleach after this is left up to the patient; some need less time, others a longer period of time.
✔ In-Surgery Bleaching
Main advantage is that you walk away out of our surgery with a brighter smile than you walked in with.
Procedure takes just over an hour. The combinations of high intensity light and chemicals accelerate the process. Not suitable for patients who are already sensitive and so proper assessment required prior to choosing this option.
✔ Internal Bleaching
Most common case for this treatment is for discolored single tooth after Root Canal Treatment. Multiple visits needed as the chemical is placed inside the tooth and covered up and then topped up till the shade goes lighter. Once desired shade is achieved, the bleaching agent is removed and the tooth filled up.
