Teeth Gum Care And Sensitive Teeth
Brushing and flossing is a great way to keep your teeth and gums healthy, but not all of the build-up on your teeth can be removed this way which overtime will get hardened to form tartar (calculus). This can only be removed by the dental practitioner at a dental practice.
By de-scaling your teeth around the gums, we are able to combat the early stages of gingivitis and periodontal disease.
If you notice your gums have been bleeding or looking discolored and inflamed, you could be suffering from gingivitis. Don’t be alarmed though as with regular cleans with the dentist, it can be fixed. If left untreated, gingivitis progresses to the more difficult periodontitis which may lead to bone loss and some cases have to be referred to the periodontist (gum specialist) for specialist treatment.
How Should You Care for Your Teeth and Gums?
At Maroondah Dental Care, we believe in motivating the patient to achieve perfect gum health. So we take before and after pictures while cleaning so that it make you aware of the built-up which was there and we will aim to get the tartar amount less each time you visit us by comparing the pictures from the previous visit. We also have the option of Soft tissue laser to disinfect the gingival pockets in serious cases.
In cases where deep clean is required, we have a NO-NEEDLE option (Oraqix) where we place the local anesthetic along the gap between tooth and gums which achieves fast anesthesia and works well for the procedure.
Severe cases of gum disease develop into periodontal disease (periodontitis) – where the gums recede and the jaw bone becomes badly damaged. This can cause more serious problems leading to loosening of your teeth which may end up in tooth loss.
All this can be avoided by the simple measure of regular checkup and clean (scaling) so that we can make sure it’s all under control!
